Certification and Development Pathway

Pathway To Become A Coach

How the pathway works?
The Singapore Coach Excellence (SG-Coach) Programme is an enhanced training and development pathway for all coaches in the community, clubs or high-performance sport programmes. The aim is to establish a training and development system to develop high quality and professional coaches. Coaches trained in this programme will gain multi-dimensional skills in the area of sports science, coaching, life skills, evidence-based practices and will be able to promote social values and principles. The SG-Coach Programme replaces the National Coaching Accreditation Programme (NCAP) since 27 March 2015. As all existing NCAP certificates remain valid, obtaining accreditation from NCAP to SG-Coach is NOT required. Coaches will now be able to enrol in required certification courses based on course availability and their interests rather than a prescribed, sequential order.

1. Community SG-Coach

Parents-My First Coach
Who is my 1st coach?

Every child’s first encounter with physical literacy, key movement milestones, health and fitness, are almost always learnt from role-modelling or guidance by the child’s own parents.

Parents’ positive examples and abilities to provide teachable moments at home during these formative years, set the foundation for the inculcation of important character and values, life skills, habits and essential problem-solving skills.

Parents also provide the platforms for every child to discover the joy of learning, acquiring crucial fundamental movement skills and leading an active, healthy lifestyle.

Thus, parents are indeed every child’s First Coaches!

Volunteer Coaches / Volunteers-Community SG-Coach
What’s the objective of this programme?

Volunteers and Aspiring Coaches play a vital role in many coaching programmes, particularly those involved with children and special populations. Unfortunately, most volunteers and aspiring coaches may not have received formal training to prepare them adequately for the coaching role.

The SG-Coach Community Coaching Programme has been developed with the main objective of helping volunteer coaches or aspiring coaches who are currently assisting a NROC coach, to learn the basic skills of coaching.
